Dans la nuit du 1er au 02 mars à Porto-Novo, l’Assemblée nationale a rejeté le projet de révision de la loi fondamentale. Au pouvoir depuis avril 2016, c’est la quatrième fois qu’une initiative de révision de la Constitution est prise sous la présidence de Patrice Talon.
A une vingtaine de mois du terme de son second quinquennat, le président Patrice Talon est entré encore plus dans une autre phase de sa présidence avec le vote du parlement il y a quelques heures. En effet à Porto-Novo dans la nuit du 1er au 02 mars, les députés n’ont pas adopté la prise en compte de ce projet de révision. C’est l’étape indispensable à franchir avant la suivante, qui est celle de son adoption par le Parlement ou par la voie référendaire. Le 04 avril 2017 lors de la première tentative un an après son accession à la magistrature suprême, c’est le même sort qu’avait connu le projet de révision de la Constitution dont l’examen avait été refusé. Le 05 juillet 2018, l’étape de l’examen du projet a été franchie mais c’est son adoption par la voie parlementaire à la majorité des 4/5 qui a échoué à quelques voix près. C’est finalement en novembre 2019, que le président Patrice Talon est parvenu à faire aboutir la révision de la Constitution. Cette quatrième tentative en ce mois de mars 2024 est un échec, et il en ressort pour lui qu’en huit ans de présidence qu’il n’a réussi qu’une seule fois à faire réviser la Constitution.
